Temple University’s College of Education and Human Development is proud to share that James Earl Davis, professor and Bernard C. Watson Endowed Chair in Urban Education, has been elected to the National Academy of Education (NAEd).
The NAEd made the announcement in January, noting that Davis is among 22 exceptional education leaders and scholars elected to membership. The academy is dedicated to advancing high-quality education research and its application in policy and practice, and consists of U.S. members and international associates elected based on outstanding scholarship or leadership related to education. Members serve on expert study panels that address pressing issues in education and are deeply engaged in the academy’s professional develop fellowship programs.
“I am honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers with election to the National Academy of Education,” Davis said. “Although this is an individual recognition, I must acknowledge the collaborators, colleagues, and communities that I worked with over the years—they continue to inspire my efforts. I look forward to leveraging this opportunity to highlight outstanding researchers in CEHD and continuing to advance the college’s goal of conducting educational research and scholarship that is relevant and impactful, especially for students, schools, and communities that have been historically marginalized. I am even more excited to engage in my community-based work in addition to my long-standing interests in the education and social experiences of Black boys and emerging men.”

Davis will attend a new member orientation on Feb. 21. An induction ceremony will be held in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 7 during the NAEd annual meeting, which runs Nov. 6-8.
